    While I am Canadian born, my folks were Dutch and not yet Canadian citizens when I was born. I do make my own.

    The process is comparable, but the taste is quite different. It's a thicker dough/batter, best made with some beer, usually with raisins or currants added. There are also variants where a slice of apple is dipped in the batter, and fried to get 'appelflappen'. Nowadays this is done with many fruits like pineapple and banana. Quite tasty, but especially after Christmas, not really good for your weight :-)
