Left a little too much liquid in the cauliflower, but it’s working out pretty well so far. Left it on a simmer to reduce the excess liquid, but damn it tastes good.

Custard tarts from my local bakery (haven't been to that one before). Guy said they were better than the ones in Lisbon. He wasn't wrong. Well, they were very tasty that's for sure.

The last 12 pounds of tomatoes. Cooked down with white wine, onions, garlic, dried chiles, basil, oregano, savoury, parsley and thyme.

Processed and strained. Like passata, but not.

We didn't properly celebrate Thanksgiving this year, so we did it today. Turkey, slow roasted apple butter, acorn squash with rye whiskey and chipotle , carrots and potato rols.

I didn’t take a picture, since it wasn’t pretty, but I am very happy with the cauliflower mash and the immersion blender. So easy to use. I wonder what else I can use it for.

    Soup would be my suggestion

My repertoire includes carrot and lemon (the lemon offsetting the carrots’ sweetness), tomato and butter bean, Italian tomato (fresh basil, garlic and breadcrumbs), leek and potato, leek and swede (accidental discovery and rather fab)

My best is pea and ham, using yellow split peas and a smoked knuckle of ham: boiled then shredded

I was just checking my ingredient terminology for US/ UK compatibility, and delighted to discover that these guys exist

    Swede is one of these
Apparently rutabaga in the US, neep in Scotland
Before I looked it up (a farmer’s shop find) I would have said turnip, but that’s a bit of an umbrella term

And, we used to carve them for Halloween (not just the Scots & Irish as shown here)

That sounds delicious. When I make soup, the most important ingredient is usually the can opener!
