Last weekend we had dinner at our favorite local restaurant. The food was great, the wines they selected with every course were even better

On Saturday we dropped into a three day birthday bash for several friends who were all turning 50. (We were the old farts there.) Many of the guests were their friends from Burning Man, so it had a very hip sexy energy (much sexier than we feel these days, alas). We were guests at a home at the edge of the San Francisco Bay, in a very nice part of Marin County. Our host was the founder of Second Life, and clearly did well with his business. Food for Saturday supper was a ginormous paella (with a vegetarian version alongside.)

Is this a terrine of some kind? The whole dish looks spectacular.

It is made of alternating slices of duck and beef. And tasted terrific!

The first thing they prepare in this video got me drooling! Tomorrow is the weekly Friday market on wich I was planning to go anyway, now I will also bring me everything to cook my own version of this receipe. I'm going to add aged Cheddar from the English cheesestand on the market, and the ribs from the artisinal butcher/farmer are to die for! I can't wait!
