The best meal in the world. Once a year. Half a pound of fresh chanterelles and two or three ounces brie per serving, red fife toast, butter, shallots, thyme, brandy, chives, salt and pepper.

If there is one good reason to live in Saskatchewan it would be the first half of August. The weather is generally gloriously dry, hot and sunny, but all the greenery hasn't started dying from those things and it is chanterelle season. Saskatchewan is often perceived as having the finest chanterelles in the world and I cannot disagree with that belief. Mrs.K and I go through at least five pounds of them at this time of year and often freeze a few pounds more for consumption well into fall.

And speaking of eating a lot of chanterelles, supper's going into the oven. 7 pound free range chicken, herb butter with herbs plucked fresh from the garden and chanterelles to be served with another world class Saskatchewan food.

Speaking of glorious summers, I thought you were on Vancouver Island for some reason...

If I can't afford to retire outside of Canada, BC is the clear favourite, but I haven't been to the Island in a couple of years now. You are in/around Vancouver?
