    This is interesting. I think it's a paper wasp - we have them here as well. I wonder if it is planning to use the pepper skin as material for its nest? We actually see these guys pollenating flowers as well. I haven't seen them eat the fruit. Yellowjackets, on the other hand, I do eradicate. They eat fats and proteins, so they make our outdoor meals unpleasant. We use the non-toxic bait traps (with pherimone bait), and they work very well.
    Too many watches, not enough wrists.

    Vespula Vulgaris.
    Yellow Jacket. Nasty little turds.
    Bentonite clay powder mixed with h2o applied to the sting area draws out the venom.

    Pretty sure it's a paper wasp. It's too skinny to be a yellowjacket, as well as having the yellow antenna. This is peculiar behaviour no matter what. I have never had any pest eat my peppers before. I also don't really care why she's doing it, beyond my normal curiosity about things. I just want her to stop.

    A closer look would prove it not to be a YJ.
    Maybe spicing up the new digs, it is.
    Adding a bit of flavour to the interior décor?

    Made this today (new noodle for me, cavatappi, I think it is). Cooked up some slicing steak and sliced it up.



    Served it like this, like a lightweight, high protein mac and cheese.


    For once in recent memory, I actually didn’t overcook the pasta. Enticingly al dente.

    We made a new kind of pasta, for us, too. The arugula is coming fast and furious right now. Too much to eat in a normal fashion.

    Arugula pasta. It took a ton of work to get the consistency right. It was much wetter than when I make spinach pasta. It turned out well in the end though. The short hand cut fettucine in the picture is already frozen for later and the normal length fettucine got cooked last night. Rustic simple tomato sauce with fresh basil and the last of the Roma lupo.

    If anyone was wondering what I was watching on my iPad at the time, it is Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, an Australian show set in late 1920s Melbourne starring Essie Davis. Not the usual thing I go for, but I quite like it.

    Fresh, rare, bison ribeye, fresh baby potatoes, fresh dill, fresh green beans, creamery butter. Except for the creamery butter everything else for this meal came from the Farmers Market or my garden. The theme here is fresh. A petty nice 2009 Mendoza Malbec accompanied this meal.
