I've flown in a helicopter hanging out the side with a video camera and somebody locking arms with the part of me that was inside for extra security. I was strapped in as well. Fun times. But still haven't driven a Ferrari....One day...

Sounds like an awesome experience. Plus, the Portofino is Ferrari’s best looking car out right now and, if I had to guess, one of the least numb to drive. The 430 I drove felt so anesthetized once you got over the awe of being in a Ferrari—something about the fixed roof and automatic transmission just made the whole thing feel uninvolved. Hope that’s not the case with the Portofino. I know they said they were putting a 6MT in its predecessor (don’t know if that ever happened), but I think the Portofino will be paddles only. Have fun, Ml. I’m super jealous.

I've driven a ferrari 348 I think? No electrics. Along with a Mustang race car from the 60s with SIX HUNDRED HORSE POWER AND NO ABS OR TC. That was silly. The f430 didn't feel numb. I mean comparatively for sure. But with a motor like that you appreciate it all the same.

Yup - or quintissentially British, perhaps. They were wonderful, but they were too expensive to make.

Nope, paddles only. I think these cars nowadays have so much power that only the most skilled drivers (doesn’t include me) could possibly wring more performance out with a stick. IMO the best place for a stick these days is with a car that doesn’t have huge hp and scary limits, like an MX-5 or a Boxster.

That's the problem. We have an abusive relationship with spec sheet racing, so all the cars have really high limits and high power outputs so they look good on spec sheets, but in reality they feel like rolling couches until you're doing 100mph and 1g in a corner.

Good looking car though. The 355 as a much better car, but the 348 had a mini-Testarossa vibe to it that I really liked.

430 I drove on a track; I had to drive it in automatic mode, and, yes, I had to pull over a couple of times because it was no-passing and I kept catching up to the slowpokes in Gallardos, but I had way more fun behind the wheel of my Z4, once you got past the awe factor of driving a Ferrari.

Driving your own car you'll always be faster and smoother. I'm sure the most fun car to drive would be an elise or something though to be fair. But if still take a ferrari. I'm sure you would too.

Yes x1000. Short of an actual competitive go kart, I can’t imagine anything more fun on the track than my Lotus was. But since most of the time I’m not on the track (especially as I get older), something a little more civilized is in order.
