They weren't filling enough so some more poor man's food - crumpets and cheese! Good to practice in case we lose our jobs (it's happened before). Though cheese is actually quite expensive.

I don't know how I lived before I had my blowtorch! I mean, I do, but still.

Sometimes you just fancy a toasted cheese sandwich (quite often actually) with fried onions, mushrooms and chorizo.

Just got back from “dinner” for my mom’s birthday. After an hour, we finally got our salads. Limp and overdressed, my salad felt like it had been sitting on the counter for at least half an hour. By the time our steaks came out, an hour and a half after we sat down, my mother’s had the wrong side, and all three of ours had been over cooked beyond recognition. Probably sitting under a heat lamp for a long time, getting more and more done. We sent them all back, told the waiter to take them off our bill, charge us for the martini and oysters Rockefeller, and to give us the check. My mom went to get the manager after waiting for five more minutes, and the manager told us that he wouldn’t charge us for anything.

I used to think this place wasn’t very good, but “good enough for the suburbs”. If my mom doesn’t want to deal with coming to the city for a nice meal, I’ll have to figure something else out. This is the hot spot in town now. And I will not be coming back.

The Santa Clara Valley has a 250 year tradition of growing pit fruits going back to Spanish times. The Blenheim apricot is considered the very best for drying, because of its high acidity, firmness and free-stone pit. Living in an overcrowded and quickly urbanizing region, I treasure our little back yard paradise.

Harvest bounty meal. This was one for the ages. The pork was pastured Berkshire hog. I cold smoked it with hickory for about an hour and a half then finished ita in cast iron over a wood fire.

Dreadful. There's no excuse for any of that.
