Interesting. I have a recipe where you mix chopped spinach with some flour and milk and cheese (salt to taste) and make a sticky mess. Then you use a tablespoon to drop it in a deep fryer. And cook thoroughly. Remains one of my favorite meals.

That sounds a lot like spinach pakoras, which would use spiced chickpea powder. My goodness, those are good.

Potatoes don’t count. Mushrooms are decidedly not vegetables, they’re fungi. Leeks are good. Corn is good. But spinach is the best.

They can be really awful sometimes, though. They need to be done right.

They're a starch. That's not to say they don't have good nutritional value, but even your own government doesn't consider potatoes a vegetable:

"Potatoes are botanically classified as a vegetable, but they are classified nutritionally as a starchy food," says a DoH spokesperson. "This is because when eaten as part of a meal, they are generally used in place of other starchy carbohydrates, such as bread, pasta or rice."

The last oranges from our tree this season. We have had fresh juice by the litre for the last few months. Sometime in February the next batch starts ripening up nicely.
