Thread: Food

I just spent ten minutes scouring my flat for some misplaced toast. Then I realised that I had just woken up from a drunken kip and that I had never made any toast in the first place, never mind lost it.

    Lol

Over for dinner, I guess. That's the problem when English is not your first, or even second language...

The way you said it was fine, Martin. The preposition was understood.

But I confess I got a nice laugh out of the unintended second meaning.

Not at all. Even when you add 'over' it can still be (mis) construed to suggest cannibalistic good times.
It's the word 'for' that does it.

Let me put it like this,

We invited our parents, to enjoy a copious dinner, which consisted of various dishes. Non of these contained any trace of human flesh, organs or other body parts

    Food

As we're waiting for a tardy stork, we weren't able to join family this year. So our Christmas was casual. We woke up late, watched It's a Wonderful Life again, and I made omelets and hash browns. Spinach, garlic, and cheddar with sour cream and sambal. My better half's working on tonight's beef stew as I type.
