Sorry bud. I signed up for a white collar boxing event so have been doing more cardiovascular (skipping etc) than weights, but I can't make the next event now (December next) so I'm back on the bench! So to speak.

Well I am attempting to get into shape to run a half marathon in November. I suffered a number of knee injuries last year during ultimate frisbee season so trying to avoid that this year with running and yoga.

I've had man flu and as such haven't been to the gym for 2 weeks! That's the longest I've been off in years. It sucks - I'm wasting away! Sooon....

I mentioned my powerlifting meet last week in the WRUW thread and thought I'd share the results with the group.
I had not competed since August 2015 due to lack of drive to train and injuries. I met with my coach earlier this year and picked the USPA Maryland State meet to try to "come back" to competing. I have moved up an age class, from 40-44 to 45-49, since my last competition. Prep was rough - I got the flu followed by a stomach bug during my prep. Bodyweight dropped from 194lbs to 178lbs in 10 days. Thanks to a great coach I was able to recover in 4-5 weeks and hit some new bests.
The day before the meet is weigh in. No worries there, my bodyweight was a few lbs below my weight class of 198.2lbs/90kg. We also give the meet director our starting weight attempts for the three lifts - squat, bench, deadlift.
Meet day is a long one. We arrive at 730am and get with the tech director to set our rack heights for the squat and bench press. First lifters get started around 900am. My opening squat was an easy 440lbs. All 3 judges liked that one and I moved to 479lbs for a meet best for me on my second lift. Another solid lift and 3 good marks from the judges. I did not know what my coach selected for my final attempt, but I was confident as I was waiting in the hole wrapping my knees.

(sorry not trimming the video, I'm the first lifter)
501.60lbs perfectly executed! A new all time best raw squat for me, in the gym or on the platform.
Then we cool down, stretch, eat, hydrate and wait for the other 3 flights of lifters to complete their squats. We had one long slowdown on the super heavyweight guys as someone detached a quad tendon with 650lbs on their back.
Next event is the bench press. This is my worst event. I just don't press well. Here's my third attempt -

Another platform best for me at 286.6lbs! Goal is 310lbs, I have some work to do there.
Again, we cool down, stretch, eat, hydrate and wait as the other 35 lifters take their 3 attempts.
A little before 3pm we start our deadlifts. This is the final event and I was really tired.
I opened at a conservative 452lbs. Very easy, felt like a warm up weight. I jumped to 507.1lbs for my second atttempt.

A good pull and a new best for me. My coach and I discussed my final attempt and settled on 523lbs. Unfortunately, it was not my day for that weight. I missed the lift - broke the floor but my hips shot up and I dropped it as I broke form.
I got 8 out of my 9 attempts, sets personal bests in all 3 lifts and set the Maryland state records for my age/weight class!
I'm still recovering from the meet, but have already signed up for the next one.![]()
Dude that's fantasic - well done! You made that deadlift look easy. Proud of you!![]()

Thanks. The 507lb/230kg deadlift felt easy. I should have paused before the setup on the next lift, I rushed the 523lb/237kg.
I'm most proud of the squat. It was a good weight selection and I stayed in form as I struggled and was able to complete the lift after a lengthy stall in the middle.
Congrats Wayne. I hit the weights this winter, but nothing like that. Mostly to enhance my Rowing training. You'd laugh
It has helped tremendously though. I've pulled several personal records on the erg this winter season.
