I have a friend who has the Abarth. I've been a passenger in it, but I just can't do one. Funnily enough, I wanted to test drive one when they we're new, but no dealer would let me (I called 3)...carzy. So I immediately went to the Audi dealer and traded in my TT for the TDI...

I like the newer BMW Minis. I think they look dorky, but also cool. We'll see if I buy one. It all depends. Wife factor. She wants a boring Civic or Accord, but she also doesn't drive stick, so even if I get a Mini, I don't want an automatic one...might as well get the boring Honda.

I had one of the original Minis, but I now wonder how I ever got in and out of it. It was ridiculous the way it went round corners. I sometimes found myself speeding up when there was an inviting corner ahead.

I was also party to a practical joke involving a Mini. At a wedding, we picked up the groom’s Mini and put it under some stairs. Except we got the wrong Mini - it was the bride’s mother’s.

The experience came in handy, though. A few years later a woman got her Mini stuck on a muddy verge. Three of us picked it up and put it back on the road.

I’ve got mixed feelings about the BMW Mini. It’s a fine thing, I’m sure, but it’s Mini-ish rather than a Mini. Where I live, they seem to be female accessories.

Doesn’t everyone do this all the time, or is that just me?

I even used to do that in my old Mercedes. How I’m still alive, I don’t know.

    New wheels!
Pick it up next week. 0-100 kph (60 mph) in around 6 seconds, not too shabby at all.

I like it! Looks a little safe and comfortable for my tastes, but I don’t have a family to protect or anything. Those wheels are very aggressive looking for a Volvo!

No, two litre Turbo. Will probably be the last petrol powered car I get to buy!
