There was a football feature in our parish magazine today - a reprint from an old school magazine, dated 1953.
A village lad was writing up his experience of playing for England in an England v Wales Schoolboy’s International. The match was played at Wembley, with TV coverage, and a few lines stood out:
“Charlton gathered the ball and netted from about twenty yards out.”
“Soon England drew level with another splendid goal by Charlton.”
“Charlton, the English inside left, was the best of the English forwards.”
That would have been Sir Bobby Charlton, then, probably the finest English footballer of all time.
He did well to get noticed, this lad from a small village in the middle of nowhere. Google reveals that he was later taken on by Arsenal but I’m not sure if he made the first team. His name is familiar to me but I don’t know where from.

City has purchased themselves quite a load of very good players. And Pep is quite skilled at coaching very good players. I think that sums it up. 
Seriously, City is a lot of fun to watch and I don't mind them sticking it to the red half of Manchester if Chelsea can't be the ones at the top. 
Meanwhile, up the Cherries?

Well yeah that too. We were by far the better team today but Joselu is useless.

Alexis misses a penalty and scores the rebound. Aubameyang gets a goal from a clearly offside position. Goals, but not a great start from the new boys.
