Mrs. K's first choice for Christmas Eve supper was tagliatelle con vongole but I couldn't find any nice clams, so supper turned local. (Hank's garden) herb rubbed bison tenderloin with fried shallots and wild rice.

As a thank you to my brother for all his support over the last three years, I took him to dinner this past Saturday. Restaurant is called Volver, and it's a Jose Garces restaurant, so you know it's going to be great.

First course was one of the most unique dishes I've ever had, called "Milk and Cereal". It's truffle, bacon, chicken oyster, and thyme "marshmallows" in a warm white asparagus milk. Utterly delicious.

Second up were the duck liver mousse deviled eggs. So rich, just exactly as you'd expect from duck liver mousse.

The main course was lamb frites, with feta. Lamb was done medium rare:

I also sprung for the shaved truffle on it, which, as a truffle fanatic, I have to admit didn't seem to add much to the lamb.

Desset was this orange creamy custard, almost, layered with a bit of a cookie that soaks in and tastes more like a sponge cake, with caramel, under an orange creme foam and a touch of crushed pistachio. Very good dessert; refreshing, unique, not overwhelming in portion, either. It sits a few spots off my top desserts in the city, but I really like it.

I'm not, but being a bit of a misanthrope I am sick of people. One more gang to visit tonight and then we are done,
