Kick his ass, Seabass!
Kick his ass, Seabass!
It is now my duty to completely drain you.
Went out for dinner to a place we'd been a bunch of times but not in a while. The fillet was very disappointing, the Diane sauce wasn't great, the chips were terrible, and the wine was crap. I mean the evening was fine - I ate it all, I'm full and the service was okay and it wasn't crazy expensive but I'm not going there again.

I hate when that happens.
We've cut way back on dining out this summer, partially because of that.

It's the worst when you go back to a place you used to like.
When I went back to a place I remembered having a great meal 12-15 years ago a while back and ate there and was disappointed, it was rough. Then I went back again and realized that I couldn't eat there anymore. It's a restaurant named Buddakan; they have a few locations and it's a restaurant owned/created by major Philadelphia restaurateur Steven Starr. The second disappointing time I was there, it all came to me. It didn't drop in quality--my palette had become more refined over the years. It dawned on me. Buddakan was never good. It was always bad. It was always fake Chinese food for boring upper middle class white people who thought things like "These General Tso dumplings are so authentic!" All it ever was--a graduate level Americanized Chinese restaurant where "Asian fusion" meant made up dishes bombarded with so much sauce that the flavors lost all subtlety and a menu that looks good literally on paper, but is always going to be bad once it hits your fork.
