My stance on the matter as well. I love spicy food, but I don't enjoy hot for the sake of being hot...

...and I love this as well. but seriously, there is a limit. I don't handle them with bare hands because the oil physically burns, so I don't know why biting the end off of one seems like an ok thing to do.

Does it ever actually physically burn though? I just googled for 10 minutes and didn't get a straight answer. Yes it hurts your eyes and throat and too much of it (or anything really) will kill you, but generally contact with the skin?

Yes. But not in any Hollywood kinda way where the flesh smokes and boils away from your bones. If I cut really hot peppers and have bare hands they are really agitated quickly, and it doesn't wash off. Last year I was negligent with the scorpions and I chopped up a half dozen or so before I suddenly realised through a creeping pain that I had forgotten gloves. It was too late: they were painful, raw, and sensitive for about 3 days.

Hot enough peppers have been theorized to repel sharks with their capsaicin. Also, some birds are immune to it.

I mix cayenne powder in with my birdseed to deter squirrels. It only works to a degree though.

Same with sharks. It seems to affect small ones, but large adolescents or adults don't give a **** about it, they're chomping down regardless.
