Electric cars aren't the future. They're the past's vision the of the future that relies on an "out of sight, out of mind" feel good factor to trick people into buying them.

I'm just not convinced that electric cars are any greener than internal combustion cars. At least not until all of our electricity comes from sunshine (and rainbows and unicorns) rather than coal, natural gas, and oil.

That's why I called it out of sight, out of mind--the pollution, the damage to the environment, et al, still exists, you just don't see it and pay for it at the pump.

Fuel cells--now that's the future. Works like a gasoline engine and the emissions are just steam. Electric is a lie.

They must be greener, even if not by much. And cheaper to run. And faster. Yes not as fun as a roaring v8, but still.

Cheaper to run over the short term, sure. But we'll see what it's like when batteries start degrading and failing. Faster yes, but with all the fun and excitement as silently getting intimate with yourself while watching Brideshead Revisited with your in-laws.

Electric cars don't pollute the areas where people live and work. That's a good enough reason for them.

The fondness for oil-burning cars is a kind of pre-emptive nostalgia.

Nah - it IS fun, like eating donuts, and punching annoying people, and pulling sickies at work. All of which have bad consequences (if you do it too much for sure).

Though technically enjoying something now that you can't in future is of course preemptive nostalgia by definition.

i'm welling up here - whilst looking thru ebay for a discovery 3 that might suit came across this 'heartfelt' sales pitch on one

hi ,I have up for auction my Landrover disco for sale ( 7 seater ). Unfortunately I cannot afford to keep the car . As it needs two new tyres , and the handbrake P sign has come up on the computer plus the air bag . which in all fairness it's easy to fix if you know what your doing . I think the front right ball baring has gone on it too . I bought the car 18 months ago for £10 k via eBay and they sold it with heap of problems , which was fixed. They were not honest and basically filled me with a load of bullshit.
I'm a single mum and I don't need a pity party, I'm totally broke my ex has totally and utterly cleaned me out of money . I went to the bank and I have ooooooo a grand f......total of £2.50 I cannot afford to run the car any longer . Otherwise I will go under .
I need to transport for all relevant reasons .
There is no reserve on the car as I know it needs a few things doing to it .
The car does run really well , when it's a 100% . Whom ever gets it will get a tidy car.
It's always had seat covers on it , so the seats are protected . It has a fridge , dog guard and roof rails .
Please no time wasters or tyre kickers or telling me " love it needs so much work doing to it , I'll offer you £x . My tolerance for sweet talk and bullsit is at an all time zero.
    No HP on the car
P.S I am a nice person , I've been thrown under the running train too many times and it hurts.

she is also selling a Gucci handbag -so things are really bad

And that they are powered by an energy source that is technically 900lbs of toxic waste. Add this needs to be replaced every 8-10 years. Not really so green.
    Cheers,
