There's no point. Cars in this segment used to be great. Now they're all the same. Rolling, soulless computers. The only difference between them all is price and how fast the speedometer moves. You can't feel the difference, because they're so big and heavy.

The M5 died with the E39. The E60, which came out as flappy paddle only (until they later came out with a 6MT that had a traction control you couldn't turn off) signaled the end of the proper M5s.

The CTS-V is probably the spiritual successor to the E39 M5. I don't know what this is.

The 'if it doesn't have a third pedal it sucks' is silly. It sounds like you don't have any seat time in any of these cars.

Automatics don't really excite me either - changing gear is fun.

I've driven similar cars. Mercedes AMG V12s, V8s, Audi S models. They're all mostly the same. Big, fast, heavy, largely interchangeable, and largely sensationless.

Perhaps driving a sports car everyday for the last four years has changed my expectations for cars, but I've never driven an AMG or similar that was more fun than a good old fashioned GTI.

    Sounds ideal.

I'm apparently not the only one who feels this way.

Certainly not - I've said it before - my polo was more fun to drive than my beamer. I'd still prefer my beamer of course, but still.
