I think the 964 was the modern epitome of the original shape. 993 and on feels like a different car. But the 964 looks so much like the original still.

Yes, exactly. Last of the hand builds I believe too. Though the 964 makes the most sense, part of me still prefers an older one like the Carerra 3.2 or better yet, an SC - more bare bones. I like basic. A '73 RS would take the cake though.

I was looking at air cooled 911s before I decided on the Lotus. I don't regret my decision, but part of me will always want on old 911. If it were in good shape I could see it as a DD, the Lotus not so much, but nothing will ever top that handling and visceral feel for me...nothing.

I am hot and cold on this one. It's exotic, but the most un-Porsche Porsche that I know of. I'd rather have a McLaren in this realm (F1!) as long as we're dreaming.

The Carerra GT is the most un-Porsche Porsche? What about the 918? The Carrera GT may have been the last supercar to have a manual gearbox and may be the last one ever; that alone gives it a place in Valhalla for me.

Yes, just because it has a manual gearbox doesn't make it more porsche-like. The fact that it's a mid engine V10 and looks exotic rather than anything like a 911. Just my observation. The 918 is no different I suppose.

I think there are few other supercars after the GT, so not likely the last one. Ferrari 430 comes to mind, Audi R8, GT3 RS... etc.

Ah, I see. It's certainly less 911-like than the 959 was.
