Probably. But something similar that guides the tire location would also help with the ideal placement of the car for the width of the garage, not just the length.

I make the ball line up to the center of the rear view mirror when it touches the windshield. This way it is setting aligned, and in as deep as you want it. It's worked perfect for 14 years now.

I love that generation, but I prefer the more handling biased GT350 to the GT500. The Eleanor is a little overdone, but it's certainly lustworthy.
