Quite a symbolic moment. Here's another picture of the two together -

I don't know who was the youngest ever. The ill-fated Duncan Edwards was younger but there may have been others.

Yes, only 31 but a lot of miles on the clock. Ferguson was probably the first to notice that he couldn't always rely on lung bursting effort, and that was ages ago. You suspect that off the pitch he hasn't had quite the discipline of a Ryan Giggs or Jermain Defoe, but then he doesn't have their physique either.

He's been magnificent. Oddly, he's been criticised for not being the absolute best, just one of the best. It's as though he's carried the burden of other's people's exaggerated expectations, and of the public's jaundiced view of millionaire footballers in general. I find him very likeable - even his indiscretions are more funny than scandalous. In the main, he's handled himself well and taken his responsibilities seriously. He was one of relatively few England footballers to visit Auschwitz when the team was based in Krakow, and spoke movingly about it afterwards. It also emerged that he was pretty well-read on modern history, which surprised a few. He's always been highly respected by his team-mates, and he has apparently given a lot of time to mentoring young players in the way that Ryan Giggs mentored him.

Somewhere inside, though, he's the same tongue-tied lad who played street football in Toxteth. It's right that he should be able to enjoy kicking a football about for another year or two. Everton would be perfect - then retire.

^ Totally agree about Rooney. I have always liked him.

JT is a lot less likeable but I bet if he played for Newcastle I would like him a lot more.

In lesser news, Watford appoint Silva. Happy with that, and happy that he's in place so early.

Football Whispers has the Van Dijk to Liverpool rumor shooting up to a 4.5/5 today. I would be very happy about that, but I would also want a younger, developing CB like Jonathan Tah; we can't go into the CL with four CBs when two are Lovren and Klavan.

Despite being a little more worn out than others his age, he could still come to the MLS and enjoy success for another 4-5 years. David Villa is 35 and scored 8 in 11 appearances with 2 assists.

Yes, America would be OK if Everton doesn't come off. He's apparently shown an interest in American current affairs in the past.

It's hard to imagine him somewhere more exotic, like China. But the Chinese road might now be effectively closed, with a 100% tax on transfer fees.

Poor performance all around from Chelsea. I've seen the Wenger apologists rushing forth to claim it was a tactical master stroke, but Chelsea played one of their worst matches in 8 months yet still had a very good chance to tie things up with Costa's late shot from point blank. Moses was laboring from the start, and why he wasn't subbed at the half is a mystery to me. That dive was atrocious and is exactly the kind of thing that needs to be removed from the game. Pull the guy and get Willian in there for a spark. And to give up a goal like they did after equalizing was so un-Chelsea like. You learn as a young child that you're most vulnerable just after you score, yet even at the highest levels, human nature sometimes takes over and concentration lapses for a moment. But Chelsea maintained focus for months with Spurs applying heavy pressure from behind, so I guess they can be forgiven for relaxing a bit.

Already looking forward to next season which should be another great one with 6 teams feeling the pressure to win the league.

    Some big signings already

The prices are silly though, I can see the Pogba price being topped this summer

Yep, Chelsea were static and sluggish, Arsenal were mobile and engaged. Mertesacker was remarkable. In fact, there wasn't an Arsenal player that wasn't on his game.
