I believe it's a combination of shape/angle and wind patterns. The water doesn't really stick to it at speed.

The reason hatchbacks suffer more is down to the venturi effect, negative pressure etc.

The gentler slope on 'sedans' reduce that effect.

A fraction of the cost of a Ferrari and more fun than one. Yes, still expensive, but not out of the realm of possibility for the average guy going through a midlife crisis Add a supercharger for more rocket boosting fun.

What you've bought is a spirited compact executive rather than a sports car. It's meant to whisk you along motorways and A roads in comfort, but with enough performance and balance to attack twisty B roads, if in the mood.

If you're not blown away, I suspect it's because you're misinterpreting the refinement. It's meant to be refined.

I'm surprised it was specced without satnav.

Also I always want things just out of my price range - I would could've got a loaded current shape 320 or old shape 335, but couldn't afford a loaded new shape 328, but that's just me. I am very happy generally though.

I think I need a lotus elise or something for the weekend.
You did go for a test drive in it ?

Frankly, I'd skip the supercharger and maybe even look at the old S2 S model.

This is where it gets confusing. The S2 came in a 190hp model (what we got in the States), a 217hp supercharged model (the SC, and later the S), and a 134hp entry level model (originally called the Elise S).

"Subjectively, the S seems to offer more robust performance, helped along by a slightly fruitier exhaust note. Although its torque peaks at 4200rpm, it pulls convincingly from as low as 2000rpm and gives the impression that you don't have to rev it mercilessly to obtain satisfying performance."

    "
Not having to chase the extra kick provided by the R's motor is actually pretty liberating - finding a long enough stretch of tarmac to delve beyond 6000rpm to hit that hyper zone can be frustrating. Freed from this angst in the S, you can concentrate on enjoying the sublime chassis; it's like being back in an original Elise, where the pleasure in going fast in it had nothing to do with power."

Outright speed isn't why the Elise is special. It's everything else. Speed is basically a byproduct.

I did and I was (inevitably) blown away by the power. But it was 15 minutes long on a roads. I knew what I was getting really tbf.

Most don't have the satnav actually. But yes you're right about the rest

It may grow on your more, Geoff. BMWs aren't about raw, visceral experiences, never have been, they're about competence. M versions excepted, of course.

I do sometimes still miss my Elise. Mine had an aftermarket supercharger and a modded ECU that kicked in the second cam around 4000 rpm instead of 6000. That gave it the low end grunt that the stock one and even the factory supercharged one didn't have. OTOH, the Aston is just as quick, handling is 90% of the Elise, and it is far more comfortable and practical.
