I think you are thinking of STi. I haven't heard of motor problems with Evos. The 4G63 is damn near bullet proof. I don't know about the motors in later ones.

You might be thinking of the high strung FQ400, which we never got in the States. That was basically a super car version of an Evo, which comes with super car maintenance.

He started looking at the 335i, Focus ST, Civic Si, and has now all but settled in on a V6 Toyota Camry, which he wants to modify with lowering springs and some other goofy shit that is worthless on a Camry.

Then I jokingly suggested an Evo. Then I seriously looked into an Evo. Apparently, there are tons of people who fit car seats into them all the time. And now, researching the Evo again, I'm really, really thinking about getting an Evo X after law school.

    For people with kids:

And look at this bad boy:
    http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...ode1=LANCEREVO

I mean, what car comes even close to that fun factor with that kind of practicality for $24K? GTI is more expensive, but not AWD, R32 is AWD, but way more expensive and doesn't have a sunroof (which, as a convertible driver, makes me feel extremely claustrophobic).

Looks like that car is no longer for sale, but I'm assuming you are looking at a X, from the previous article.

The biggest problem with the Evo X is the size of the trunk. It's tiny, mainly due to the battery and fluids located in the trunk for weight distribution. He'll need to figure out a way to move them out of the way to open up space. It may not be an easy mod.

Having owned one, the other general issue with all Evos is the interior. It is cheap and rattly with bad noise isolation. Also, the 2l engine is whiny and noisy at freeway speeds, which is not great for road trips.

If he wants a fun daily driver that can be used as a family hauler, have him take a look at the 09+ Ralliart Sportback instead of the Evo. It's a wagon styled mini-Evo that can make close to Evo HP with a simple Cobb tune.
You lose the active yaw control, brembos and the super-sport mode in the DCT, but it still has the same engine with a smaller turbo and tons of trunk space and its quite cheaper than the Evo X.

I've heard of WRX/STI needing more engine rebuilds for high power.

The engine used in the Evo X is the 4B11T - an aluminum block engine, its fairly bullet proof.
The 4G63 - cast iron block was used in the earlier gens.

Anyone have any experience with the Hyundai Genesis?
I'm toying with the idea of acquiring one made around 2009-2011.

I'm used to large luxury cars, my last three have been Lincoln's which I love but it may be time for change.

The only other cars I would be interested in would be Mercedes E350 or C300.

I was thinking about an Audi A6, the used prices are LOW, but the reviews on the A6 are not very good. Timing chain problems are at the top of list. I haven't checked out the A4 yet. I'm not sure if the A4 would be large and comfortable enough.

I knew a guy who had a Genesis R-Spec. He hated it. It had a ton of problems with the ride and control, the front suspension was all messed up; something like that. He moves out of cars quickly generally, but this was record time. I think probably 6-9 months, and the whole time he had a second car as well. He couldn't stand it.

From what I've read, a lot of magazines put the A6 at the top of the class (it would be my choice as well). What years are you looking?
(Looks like the E class has toppled the A6 in C&D rankings: http://www.caranddriver.com/audi/a6)

Also, if you're willing to go to the compact size, the 3 (depending on year; I hear the E90s are better) and A4 are probably better choices than the C class. Car and Driver ranks the A4 above the C class (which they rank above the 3 series):
    http://www.caranddriver.com/audi/a4

The Jaguar XF is also down in the ranks, but it's towards the end of the model run, which explains that. It also means a more reliable car than earlier years and better deals to be had. It's worth a look.

EDIT: Just saw you were looking 09-11.

It was my numberplate! Posho is the most popular staple food in Uganda.

It was a truly badass car but incredibly unreliable. Definitely the most embarrassing car to break down in.
