So I used to get really annoyed when I had the car heating on but it automatically turned the air con on when I set the fans on the windscreen to demist in winter. I thought 'why would I want the heater AND the cold ac on? Turns out it's correct - ac doesn't mean cold, and helps demist. Who knew?

The aircon coming on during screen demist automatically you mean ?

Or the fact that the aircon can act as a dehumidifier ?, i.e. aircon doesn't have to be just cold, The heater part can throw heated air through it too.

Another one for you Geoffbot, aircon is usually automatically inhibited below ambient temperature of ~5 degrees C and below, so it doesn't always kick in in winter.

I knew the air con could act as dehumidifier but I don't think any of my cars have had the A/C come on automatically for defrost
