To paraphase Goldilocks- " It was just right".

It was from Alinea, in Chicago. It is regularly ranked as the best restaurant in America. While it was only the second best meal I have ever eaten, it was the most fun by a country mile.

    Better than The French Laundry?

I've only eaten at one Michelin star restaurant, Del Posto in Chelsea, NY, which was such an amazing and decadent meal, I can't imagine a place with three.

I've been to French laundry twice. Once was very memorable, and again it was good but certainly not as good as the hype. Not sure if I want to go back for the rubber match.
It is now my duty to completely drain you.

Grant Achatz used to cook at French Laundry, and yes his restaurant has been ranked higher than French Laundry more than once. 2011, which is when I ate the meal I referenced, was the first year they were awarded three stars. This year it is ranked as the 15th best restaurant in the world. Scalpers sell tables for $500 a seat.

Here's Mrs. K at the old trompe l'oiel entrance. It looks like the hallway continues for a fair bit, but there is a wall immediately behind her. A hidden entrance to her right opens up, with a whoosh like in the first Star Trek. No comment on the (drunken) quality of the photo. It was after the festivities.

Migas and refried beans, because the Grand Prix is in Austin. I used to love Formula 1. I still love Austin.

My steadfastness as an English breakfast purist is slipping. I'd try that.

Also, my pie wasn't homemade. My mash was - I (humbly) make the very best mash out there. I'll share my secret recipe with you.

Equal parts boiled potatoes and salted butter. Mash.
