Has anyone on here owned 01-06 XK or XKR? They have dropped so cheap I am thinking about picking one up next year. I do 90% of my own maintenance. At least from the buyer's guides I have read they seem decently reliable.

A fellow I know from my other forum shopped for one for quite some time. He said he couldn't come across a single XK8 that wasn't ailing from some major problem. And this is a Jag man who does most of his own work. He said it wasn't worth the effort and decided to give up his search and buy another E-Type to restore. That's right; buying an E-Type and restoring it to nearly new was less work than dealing with an XK8. They also bought a CLK cabriolet and have had that instead of the XK8; if that's any indication of how poor quality the XK8 is, then I would stay far away, because I wouldn't touch a Benz of that era.

That surprises me.
I did a lot of research on and some looking at XJ8s a couple years ago as I was thinking about buying one. Generally I found the post '00 model years to be in fairly good shape. The pre-'00 had poor timing chain tensioners but as far areas I saw in research, they were carbon on the MAF, automatic transmissions that can have problems if not serviced regularly and some minor interior problems. And the couple examples I looked at didn't have those problems. Did he say what problems he saw with the XKs?

Drove an Audi S6 today. 450 horsepower.
Surprisingly not that fun. Very fast, well controlled, shockingly good ride, but the steering was too light below highway speeds and the pedal was way too soft for my taste. Also, for a car that fast, it lacked the savagery of, say, even a CLS550. Great sounding exhaust though. And it pops when you let off the gas. But I never felt all that dialed in. A big of a letdown. And if you're spending $85-90K, you better love it.

A lot of modern cars are so numb - I guess it's all the electronics. No steering feedback, all a bit fake and disconnected.
