Sportsters do look nice, but I could never, never, never buy a Harley. You'd spend every moment assuring everyone that you're not just like all the other unbearable Harley riders.

Interesting down here the Harley riders are generally the most civil, friendly and actually safe riders. They are the ones generally setting up and sponsoring the charity rides. The sportbikers are pretty much the ones no-one wants to associate with. Then we have an even lower level which are these packs of dirt bikes and four wheelers that run in packs on certain days and the police do nothing to them? None are street legal. This has extended to even on weekends. I expect to see them filter up this weekend due to the 4th. Another reason I don't go to Miami.

I've owned nearly all of these types of bikes at one point (sometimes up to three). I don't think there is really a stereo type for a brand or type. I just dislike those that ruin it for others.

I was just in Augusta GA for a regatta last weekend and there was also some bike convention as well as a pride festival of sorts.. On my way to my hotel from dinner I was stopped at a light and a large group of Harley bikes were coming the other way. As soon as it turned green I accelerated and then quickly slammed on the brakes because one of the bikes made a left turn when he wasn't supposed to. Good thing I was on my game as well as the car in the left lane. He would have been toast. He seemed pissed and not even an apology from him or a sorry hand gesture, but I'm sure he was embarrassed and wanted to quickly get out of there. What I can't figure out is why he made a left because everybody else in the bike group was going straight.

Up here, Harley riders are generally either biker gang wannabes or accountants who are biker gang wannabes. Harley's nationwide reputation saved the company years back, but it also alienates many who don't want to be associated with the leather vest and handlebar mustache crowd.

That's not to say that they don't do good things, like the aforementioned charity rides. I mean, people deft stereotypes all the time. I mean, I'm a pretty nice guy (sometimes), and I drive a BMW.
