The German Soldier is a good 48mm and due to the narrow bezel looks bigger than the Other early large size watches
The original Lange & Sohne was actually a ridiculous 65mm

The alarm is pretty loud
There are a couple of suggestions in the mag
They were used by Waffen SS observers during the V2 programme and might have been used in conjunction with mirrored sextants or made so they could be read easily in photographic negatives.
I'll investigate a bit more and see if I can get something more definitive.

Hi lads...got my 1st custom strap! Made up with it...I came up with the design and had it made..bund to add a even more vintage look to my trip 7 and of course a nod to Pink Floyd with the Wall..made from saddle leather and really comfortable!
