It;s like chicken feet for the Chinese.
The cultural vibe (and subconscious childhood memories) at the time of eating is half the flavor.
So, it tastes better when you eat it at a diner too. At 3 AM... with coffee and eggs.... and toast... and pancakes.... with syrup... etc.

What I have there is cheap grocery store bacon. I had almost a pound left over from something else I cooked and had to use the rest up.
Bacon I'd serve is much thicker than that.
Bacon should be slightly crispy. Crispy, not burned. Not limp and slimey.
If you've eaten breakfast in most American chain restaurants, you've had cheap, thin bacon. They put pounds of it on the grill first thing in the morning, then dump it in a tray until needed. Then they throw your ordered slices back on the grill to reheat them.
    That's why it's like s****.
Very few places cook to order any longer.

Fresh bacon bought locally is supreme. You have to get the kind with no preservatives if you buy at a store. Some of it is great.

    Shudders.
Ya gotta eat at those old places where all the gals are over 60, with big hair, and call you "hon" as soon as you walk in the door.
And fill your coffee cup after every sip.
There you can get excellent bacon. Cooked to order.

Doesn't look half bad for a carryout. That papdum looks very light.
It is now my duty to completely drain you.

Yeah it's really rather good. We make curries ourselves and they're excellent, but they're different. Probably 1000 calories lighter and made without ghee, that's why.

That sounds delicious. And everyone is so down on English food.
