With the right prep work, it can be very delicious. I coat the steaks liberally in kosher salt, let warm to room temperature, drawing the water out of the steaks, then wash the salt off the steaks, pat dry, and cook in a pan using a bit of Irish butter (about a tablespoon for two steaks). Cooked mine on medium high for about 3.5 minutes total, my brother's for about 6. Probably should have done his for five instead.

You can add a bit more salt and/or pepper before putting them in the pan, but I didn't this time. The fat retains a good bit of the salt flavor, so in a ribeye I didn't feel the need to season again.

I love the adjectives (adverbs?) used nowadays - 'hand cut artisan sourdough adorned with lashings of pan fried aged unsmoked streaky bacon, with shredded crispy romaine lettuce, sliced beef tomato and homemade tomato relish'.

    BLT then?

I'm just pointing out the work that went into it, as opposed to buying already mashed or even powdered potatoes. Making good fork mashed is annoying and difficult.

Powdered mash potatoes are good for 2 things: camping and making potato bread.

Raza: get a spiral masher. It's like a magic wand, make great mashed in a snap.
