I woder if there's enough bouyancy in the strap to stop your watch sinking if you accidently dropped it in the water ?

Looks great! Interesting dimensions with a 24mm strap, much wider lugs than usual relative to diameter. It's an elegant look while informal at the same time.

It is a profoundly peculiar watch from the crown and guards to the brushed metal dial and the 24mm lugs. While it is a pretty good wearable representation of the Hamilton Model 22 Deck Chronometer it is also it's own beast.

I'm curious about the cork strap. The manufacturer is located @ only 100 km from where I live. I know they have a museum with watches and clocks from c. 1630. However, their web site is horrible and the communication...well...not so good. And it's a shame, because the cork from this region is considered the best in the world (is used by NASA).

I think I'll have to give them a call, someday.

I did not have to deal with them so I do not know about their CS, but I heartily endorse the cork straps.

It looks like a thin cork veneer laminated on to a leather? base strap ?

As a fan of unique look straps, i admire the cork strap thru your picture Henry great pictures as always..

i personally wonder how strong the cork strap from ripping due to accidental snagging ? but if they are able to make strap from cork, i believe they would be strong enough material for watch band..

It is 100% cork. It is laminated layers. I do not know if it is like plywood with each layer laminated perpendicular to the previous one, but I would imagine it is. Sheet cork also has a lot more strength than you might think. I have worked with a lot of sheet cork over the years and if it is good quality cork it is extremely difficult to tear.

Your observations on the cork match mine. It is incredibly comfortable and strikes a great balance between the feel of leather and the robustness of rubber. And it's very hard to appreciate until you actually wear one.

Thank you Brian. I am quite glad you did send it to me. I think the blasted finish of my Deck watch goes really good with the matte texture of the cork. And it is really comfortable. I knwo I said that already, but I think it needs to be said again.

I am not going to confirm my suspicions that it will not keep one's watch afloat, especially since the WR on the Deck Watch is not great.

There's a village in Indonesia where a small factory made shoes from a leaf... it was a processed leaf that is as big as a plate (in fact it use for plate substitute..)
when i was watching the show i was thinking 'could it be turn in to watch straps?
yeah.. like its not hard enough for me to score some suitable leather material..
