I love hot dogs. I mean, sure, they're just all the gross parts of an animal, but when you put them together, they're delicious. A place around here does a bacon cheese dog, which is insane. It's so tasty and salty that it will leave you dehydrated for days.

Have any of you ever tried scrapple? It's mainly a Philadelphia thing, so I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't.

I have had scrapple - homemade from the dad of my first girlfriend (*cough* years ago) - he grew up in eastern PA. I have also made Cajun style dirty rice many times, with all sorts of ugly chicken scraps, and I have also made paté from scratch, with pig, chicken and duck liver. I have no problems with the odd bits of an animal. I was actually mostly-vegetarian for over ten years. When I decided that I wanted to try everything, I realized that all parts of an animal should be used, since its life was taken... don't waste that life. My holiday turkey gravy has all the giblets. Weird bits are yummy.
Too many watches, not enough wrists.

I agree 100% - eat the whole animal - trotters, ears and all. Do it justice. If it tastes good then great.

I'm born and raised Canadian, but I'm 1st gen. I grew up Scottish, and this classic cartoon basically covers the family food policy:
It is now my duty to completely drain you.

Pleh! Honestly, I wouldn't even think to look up a recipe. Not to start anyway. I would just do my own ultra fine assorted mince, and then lightly cold smoke them before grilling.

Dad did his usual trick today.
Slammed the freezer door shut and walked off.
    It just bounces back open.
4hrs later I came home to find my tub of ice cream had gone soft so I just had to eat it rather than refreeze it and get ice particles into it.

I have learned from ketchup. Several things in the world have very specific tastes for me. Ketchup and hot dogs are two. Years of making really good to fairly poor tomato based condiments that were not ketchup and then one try at a recipe I instantly knew was ketchup is a lesson I have learned. Now I make ketchup that is absolutely ketchupand way better than the best ever factory product. I am not interested in making a really good gruesomely finely ground sausage. I don't like fine grind. I am only interested in making a better hotdog. That's it.
