By the way, my summer tires were not happy with the weather this morning. Once the temps got over 30, they got much better.

It has to be a manual, AWD strongly preferred, and it needs a harder edge than your basic Audi. And as I discovered driving my brother's S4, I very much prefer a mechanical handbrake.

That leads me to the Evo, STI, and WRX. But since I'm going used, the WRX is sort of a distant third. GTI (new) and whatever Golf R is available at the time is also a possibility (much more grown up than the other two, but also very rare unless they change it in the future).

As for the leather and sunroof...well, I hate cloth seats and I'm a convertible driver--a car with a steel roof that doesn't let any light in would feel like a cage. I've never owned a fixed roof car without a sunroof or leather (or leatherette, which is fine by me). Just can't do cloth and steel. I don't smoke in fixed roof cars, but still, the discomfort of cloth and the fact that it picks up every smell is annoying. I MIGHT be able to deal with it in these cars, but no sunroof is a deal breaker for sure.
Any thought on the Ford Focus RS? brand new right now... but it sounds like a hell of a car.

I keep forgetting that it's AWD. I don't care for the looks much--it's so juvenile that it makes the Evo and STI look grown up and sober. The numbers surrounding it are pretty impressive, but I can't get over the looks. I think I'm too old for it.

I'm too old for the Lotus but it hasn't stopped me.

You only get too old for Lotus when you start believing that DSGs are a viable alternative to manual transmissions.

An Evo or STI is pushing it already...it'll stick out in the sea of silver and black luxury cars at a law firm enough already, the Focus looks like something a high schooler wants to take to homecoming.

See I prefer cloth because leather melts skin down here in Alabama in the summer. I never use a sunroof so it is just weight up high for me. Windows down all the time but I never use a sunroof no idea why. I honestly prefer stripped versions of cars as long as there is A/C and a radio I am happy.

RS Audi? Personally I'd run away screaming but maybe you are braver then I?

It could be worse. It could have neon green wheels, neon green race numbers on the side (404FSP) and a neon green sticker saying Grumpy cat hates your stick figure family on the bumper.

I drive it to work quite often. Thank goodness I work at a startup engineering firm.

I think the easiest solution is to just go work for the government. A focus or Subaru - any Focus or Subaru would most definitely not stick out there. Granted my client is the Ministry of Environment - but if you were to look at our parking lot, you'd swear that Subaru is the #1 Automaker in the world.

RS Audis are a good choice...but you know, starting a new career, three years of no income and student debt....might be a while before I can drop that dough. And even then, I don't think any RSs come with manuals.
