Squats, dead lifts, and bench presses, the only three things needed to build overall mass if done correctly.

Old school, but very effective if done with heavier weight and low reps, 3-5 sets each. Any of these will build overall core strength and size.

The guy I train with used to be a professional bodybuilder and he does not go in for the fancy new stuff.

Sometimes the basis exercises are the best, and it has certainly improved my strength and size.

Why do people wear hoodies in the gym? Odd.

I do, but my gym is an old fashioned warehouse type place, no air con, too hot in the summer, freezing in the winter, and most importantly, no mirrors!!

Rang in New Year's Eve by running a 5K. Haven't pinned on a race bib in years. The race went well but, gawd, do my legs hurt today. The good kind of hurt I should say. Now I'm getting ready to watch an outdoor hockey game so my New Year's day should be good to go. Go Broons!

Getting into a good routine in terms of training up for a couple Triathlons this summer. Did my first offroad triathlon last year - really enjoyed it, even though the single track mountain bike trail killed my time. A technical course + limited mountain bike experience + clipless pedals spelled doom.

In any case, just set a (post high school) personal best 10 k time a couple weeks ago. Sub 45 minute. Which, sure, isn't competitive. But was fast enough to make me think I'm not completely out of shape.

Still working on getting into the gym for regular strength training. I'm on and off with that - and you really can't be.

So at the gym today, I decided that I needed some directed assistance with gym training - specifically with speed and strength training (as opposed to endurance). Saw a 6 week course that looked like it would be perfect "Speed and Power", directed specifically at athletes, as opposed to body builders - and incorporating more than just weight training.

Perfect I thought. Then I looked up the instructor online....

I am now officially terrified. I begin Friday.

It was nice to share this corner of the internet with you.
