Thread: The cars and bikes thread!

I was always a manual type of chap (Lotus was my tipple of choice) but either a) I've become old or b) I've come to appreciate that the shift is like the colour, engine size etc- totally dependent of the car and how (and how often) you'll be using it.

My current car is a Volvo V40 T5 and it's only available in auto. That's fine, though. The car is essentially a quietened down, dialled back ST5 and the auto suits the more GTish character.
The bigger engine has a slight trade-off on the turning circle but, otherwise, it's pretty much perfect.
Previously, I had a GTi and now love the infrequency with which the Volvo greets me with a new warning light. "If only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagon..." I think I'd give up on life. The list of things which broke or died on that thing shocked me and- remember -I came from Lotuses (Loti?).

Besides, if a Volvo with a too-big motor in it was good enough for Paul Newman....

Yeah VWs aren't actually very reliable according to some chart I saw the other day.

I'm having fun with insurance. On compare the market.com I enter a 2014 plate m235i and it says 1k a year which I can swallow (I'm a pretty new driver with 0 years no claims discount) but when I enter the car details of a 2015 model manually it says 1700 a year, which is silly... Urgh - this is no longer fun.

I've driven VW's for about 12 years with no issues.
