Whilst I am a martini man I've yet to develop my gin pallet sufficiently to confirm my favourites, or even what style I like.

I rather enjoy Bulldog gin. Though I haven't seen the black bottle before. Is that something special?

It could be I picked it up in duty free in Spain.

I'm a big fan of gin, bombay sapphire and tanqueray would be my normal choices.

I have to say I like the bulldog its very smooth.

The Spanish gin larios isn't bad either and for €7 a litre in Spain you can't go wrong lol

When I was was ....in my heyday.... I found a bottle of Plymouth gin, drifted by beautifully on a hot summer Sunday afternoon. Of all the standard gins that were available then, that had a character that seemed distinctly more gentle and mellow.

Although it's not remotely authentic, a martini made with Bombay Sapphire was always very nice, as it's got all those extra flavours. Especially if you make your martinis in a halfarsed manner (which I did, but I suspect you don't)

But the gin market has massively expanded since I decided gin and me needed to go our separate ways

I think Bombay S have now released a Dry gin as well.

When I worked in the booze shops I found the gin snobs the most snobbish of all the various snobs.... but typically not especially well informed.

My housemate and I, not having any of the kit, used to make Bombay Sapphire martinis in hi-ball glasses....and leave the ice cubes in.... scarcely a martini at all. On the plus side, they were very strong to start with. And very big. Ferkknows how we managed to cook at the same time.

Drambuie. Not a full shot, just a few sips before bed. I love the daylights out of that stuff.
