    Moving quickly along:
Have now been cycling to work for 6 months, and it's going well. Still need to work on my 'muffin tops' as they didn't drop off the way I hoped they would Down to bad lunch diet (if you can call it that) - Greggs has a lot to answer for !
The bike I've been using (second hand from a friend) was starting to get a bit tired, and I got fed up of re-indexing the derailleurs every time they got a knock; so have treated myself to a new 'steed':

SO much smoother (mechanically, at least), though you feel every ripple in the road; but it's much more nimble and precise than the old one. I might have to invest in a suspension seat post
Some people have opinions - The rest of us have taste.

That's my approach with eating and fitness. Going to the extremes is rarely sustainable. I played college football and used down protein shakes between meals and lift heavy with long rests in between sets. Anymore I find it an absolute bore to break up my workouts into groups like leg day, or back and bi's. Now I do shorter workers that are more intense. I want functional fitness for triathlon and MMA so I focus on full body movements like Olympic lifts and kettle bell work.

Not at all, just do more separation work on your quads such as lunges and just squat every other leg day instead.
