In the US they are available from Boutique Store like Toppers. There really isn't much of anything anymore that does not have some availability in the US now that these stores are in place. They may only have a handful or two, but they are getting nearly all of the JDM models. Some may not appear on the Seiko US site, but this one does.
Information came directly from Seiko US.

Hello I'm new here. I just started collecting Seiko recently. Less than 6 months. I have heard of Seiko. Never have thought I wanted one. I own a Seiko stopwatch though. And my wife has a kaki field watch since more than 8 years ago. So I started by buying the SNK809 with black canvas strap. Then got a SKX007J with rubber strap. Then got a Sumo. Then a Sea Urchin. Like the OP I went into the GS boutique when I was in Tokyo last week. The first one closed. It was 10 minutes before the next one closes. So I ran one street to the next one. And came out with the SBGR097. It was love at first sight when I saw the reviews on the ABTW site. And timeless luxury website. I knew I like it. I just needed to see it for myself because my local dealership doesn't have one. So in 6 months or less. I amassed a couple of Seiko. Now I'm kicking myself for not buying the GS Quartz diver as well. Lol.
