A nifty new Smiths in the pipeline

    Available quite soon.

Probably 40mm and powered by an ETA 2830, but I'm not sure final specs are available. It was originally suggested by a British motoring journalist but Eddie Platts took it through development to production.

    What a slightly bizarre concept

Slightly bizarre, maybe, but I think it's kind of sharp looking. The dial might be confusing at first....

Not really. Smiths made clocks, watches and instruments, so it's kind of natural to combine a speedo dial with a watch. Quite a few companies have done similar watches - including Swatch!

    I could take a guess, but won't.

Like all of Eddie's offerings, the price will be more than fair.

I guessed it was a speedo off a bike, but I wonder if he'll have enough customers to justify it ?

Was/is it upside down like that on the bike?

and yes I knew smiths did instruments back in the day.

    Cool!
TZ had a thread looking at design options to do this
    http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...red-watch-POLL

Personally I like it. The aesthetic is a good match with old speedos I remember.
It recalls the days when pretty much any British thing with a dial was by Smiths
