Just get a vastly cheaper SARB. They look the same and are way cheaper, and no one will know the difference, since no one knows Grand Seiko exists. Just get a fine tipped Sharpie and write "Grand" on the dial somewhere and you've got a GS. I mean, that's what it looks like Seiko does....

Yes, that was very late, and I was really drunk, but he said he wanted reasons not to buy it.........

Sorry for the late response to this thread. Have been working my b*** out and just managed to get some "me" time.....(in case you are wondering, it's almost midnight here...).
Anyway, thanks to all the enablers and dis-enablers. Times like these, when one is confused/ distracted, having someone talk sense / nonsense can help put things into perspective.
I like the first one, coz of the textured dial and the unique bezel, and totally agree with the comments on the bracelet. With the second, it resembles what I have been eyeing on for a long time - SBGR061
The main differences between the SBGR061 and the second piece (SBGW005) are Auto vs manual, date vs dateless. Again, I dislike the bracelet. But when i compared the two side by side (pictures), somehow, the date on the SBRG061 didn't seem all that bad.
To Domo's question about pricing, no special pricing on both models. I know I will be able to get some discount, but not enough to move me. The SBGR017 is around US$3,600 - slightly more than the SBGR061.
I am still undecided if I should stick to my original plan or go ahead with this..... I will have to sleepover it, and rethink about it again.
Once again, thank you all.

You must stay faithful to your original plan. But then again, plans should be flexible...

I implore you to get the SBGR017. That's Grand Seiko before they were cool. 200m WR, fully (and I mean fully) screwed bracelet, and what style. Even the caseback is scalloped and geometrically matches the bezel. It actually LOOKS like a Japanese watch.
Not that you should, but what do they want for the SBGW?

Are Grand Seikos "cool" now? I mean, do the kids wear them? Does Drake rap about Grand Seikos? I don't think my girl Tay-Tay Swift has one.
I mean, they make great watches, I'm told, but they're still very much under the radar.

Didn't they have a bar fridge to the right of "Sub zero" for something? That's where the SBGR017 would go
