Ings is certainly not a world class striker at this point, but nobody can say what he will be able to do when surrounded by PL talent. I forget the exact stats, but Liverpool spent more on Balotelli than Burnley has spent in total player salaries since the 1950s. Granted, his form went to crap in the second half of the season, but he was on a team that spent £4.5m, and was forced to play ugly, defensive football most of the time (hence the yellow cards). I don't think he'll be the next Harry Kane, but crapping on a guy that scored 11 goals on a bottom feeding team seems harsh. Especially considering Liverpool had no players whatsoever who scored double digit PL goals.

He's not terrible. He's certainly worth having on the books but the worry is that this is what the owners see as the kind of player they can replace Suarez with.
Post-Suarez, with Gerrard off and even the up-and-coming youngsters feeling that they are too good for the club, there's a real danger that the last remnants of gloss are peeling away from LFC. History is fine but it's starting to feel like pre-history.
Chelsea and Man City didn't get where they are with penny-pinching, dogmatic business models and procrastinating deals to death.
They both put forth a clear statement of intent. They went out and bought the best players on the market. They paid what was required and they got the deals done. Liverpool- fans and owners - are kidding themselves if they think they won't have to do the same.
Abramovich has taken flack for buying Chelsea as (alternately) a plaything or a PR exercise but he is THERE most weekends, supporting his team.
How often do we see John Henry or even Tom Werner at Anfield?
Does anyone think for one second that Roman will miss John Terry's farewell performance at the Bridge? And yet Stevie G, arguable the club's greatest ever servant, leaves and John Henry doesn't bother to get on a plane.
So, yes, I'm happy to see Ings on the books but I have no faith whatsoever that these owners will be making the kind of signings they really need to make.

Exactly this.
I mean yeah he probably shouldn't be a starter at a team that wants to play Champions League but the season has barely ended so there is plenty of time to get another striker who can be a starter and Liverpool grabbed an upgrade to their current group of strikers.
Of coarse, if Newcastle had of grabbed Ings I would be dancing in the streets but slightly different expectations.
Speaking of strikers, I'd like at Newcastle.

Don't get me wrong. Ings is a fine striker...I'm not shitting on him. He's just not good enough to have spent so much damn time and effort getting him. There's a clear English bias in Rodgers and FSG...look at the difference how Sterling has been handled compared to Balotelli or Borini. All the support and understanding in the world for Sterling, harsh disciplining for the Italians.
Ings is an okay addition. I'm just not going to get excited by picking up someone on his level after we felt the after effects of losing a true star and not replacing him, sliding four slots down the table and having a horrendous goal difference for a top 10 team.
I'm worried that with guys like Milner and Ings and Rodgers at the helm we're going to see a life fighting for 7th until FSG sell or Rodgers gets hit by a bendy bus.

Time will tell whether or not Austin and Kane are one season wonders, but they both did very well this season.
I'm worried we'll splash out £25-30m for Austin and not get upgrades in the other areas they're needed.

I am pretty sure Austin won't be a one hit wonder. 48 goals for Poole Town, 31 for Swindon Town, 41 for Burnley, 35 for QPR. Admittedly they were in lower leagues but it still points to a striker who knows where the goal is.
QPR is saying at least 15 million which would be a steal IMHO.
Kane maybe but I have been watching Kane for a couple years. I think he is going to be a major star.
Speaking of QPR players, Joey Barton is a free agent and I wouldn't mind having him back at Newcastle.

If Liverpool can buy Chicharito for £7-15m, I'd be so happy. He's a striker that will fit the team and will get regular play time.

That's an impressive history.

I have never figured out why Chicharito hasn't been able to end up on a team as a regular starter. He clearly has talent.
