Brands you would never buy from
I was just wondering if there were brands that you would never buy from and the reason behind that (bad customer service, poor quality, etc).
For me, it would be Vintage VDB. The guy behind the company started out in the vintage Panerai rep game a number of years ago and sold his builds for big money passing parts off as things they were not (ie cases as perfect reps and movements as geniune Rolex 616s and 618s) even though they were not or were frequently poorly modified versions of cheap parts. So ignoring the replica thing, the fact that he passed things off as things they were not and scammed a number of people out of a lot of money makes me not want to have anything to do with Vintage VDB.

Ummmmmmmmm ......Brietling, nor Rolex
Just don't like 'em (the look of 'em), any of 'em.
I've yet to see one I do like.
... but I have seen a couple of Tudor (are they related to Rolex or something?) that I could warm to.

Panerai - nothing against them - but their watches have a nasty habit of looking great on other peoples wrists and not my own

I'd also add Bremont because I think a lot of their models and advertising is very gimmicky - it puts me off somewhat (but I still appreciate they make decent watches)

The reality is if a brand I disliked made a watch I liked I'd probably buy it.

Movado and Tag - I have bought both of these for MrsO in the past and in both cases an applied part on the dial dropped off within a few months. Was a real PITA getting money back - ironically it was the refund money for the Movado that went towards the Tag.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I was not a huge Rolex fan but since buying one (again for MrsO) I would definitely buy one for me at some point.

It was in part all the bad press last year that made me go look at the Bremont display when in Aruba, to see what all the fuss was about - left the shop with one on the wrist. The special editions are pricey and gimmicky but I like the core range away from all that.
Proof no such thing as bad publicity.
