How thick is too thick for you?

Nah - 11.6mm is fine for a 40mm auto imo

I think it is too thick for a "dressy" watch and it looked that way when I tried one on. Fine for a chrono or diver or pilot but not something that is dressy. IMO.

Same reason I sold my Perpetual it was too thick for a dressy watch. It is pretty much a problem with most new affordable dress/ dressy watches. The automatic movement makes them too thick and they end up with these big slab sides.

Say what you want, but Rolex seems to have the case size to thickness thing nail with the exception of the DSSD. The Sub has a balance that most others can't seem to match.

Hmmm,my daily wear Pam 345 is around 44 x 16ish mm but the titanium made it more comfy

The sub is 12mm thick I believe

I've got three that hit 17mm
The MM, but 4mm of that is the dome

A Barbos Nautilus which at 50mm across, plus the lugs, would look like a pancake if it was thinner,.

(I have managed to resist the temptation to run over this with a car to see if I damage the car)
And one of the MWC collection. The diver special. Which looks like a wedding cake but manages to carry it off. Just.

For me it also depends the style of watch. I don't mind the 2500 PO at 14.mm thick but if it wasn't a diver I'd wonder what on earth is going on in there.

Never measured any watch thickness but prefer if a watch slips under a shirt sleeve. I like toolish watches, but as with all tools, they have to be practical.
