I am sure you all remember that after the hospital cancelled their gala I swore we were done with galas.
Well...we are now doing the civic art gallery gala. Apparently we missed working ourselves to exhaustion.
A local abstract artist, gallery owner, teacher and philanthropist was honoured. The dual theme was colour and ascension. So, we did a full colour gradient up all the flights of stairs ending in ascending to red, the colour of the featured work by the artist.
We used a mid 19th Century colour wheel as a recurring motif.
These are transparent on brushed stainless steel giving the wheels a modern and very shiny touch. The front doors are transluscent to allow the light to travel through, but in a diffuse way.
The real feature was an equilateral pyramid that ended up being over 11 feet tall. Including the swirly rays emanating from the egg. It is both clearly "After Hilma af Klint" and slightly cheeky about it. The golden egg represents the ascension, as well as the dessert sponsor. I love blending things like that. It keeps me from getting precious.
The dining room, reasonably self explanatory. The upright card in front of the place setting is a multi media piece made by the honoured artist. Bob made 192 unique pieces, 1 for each guest.
