did you not make a boot up disc when first bought to reinstall it to the point install so that would correct it might have an old copy of windows eight but where ..thats a question you could do a system re-stall that is take of any files you want then system re-stall it back to factory setting and it will redo the systems and it will correct faults ...

but before then you can go to proprieties so right click on my computer and the properties box will pop up at the top of the box there are things like security ..previous versions /tool ...

so click on tools the tool one is a error checking and it will scan the drive and tell you and there is also one that will on start up scan and check your whole system and correct anything it needs to while doing it just can't think where it is now ..
tried the boot up disc, also fails, tried system restore. only got restore points from last year, not from when I bought it. there is no tools option when I click on my computer, think you're thinking of winxp lol
