On April 2nd, 1982, Argentinian Commandos mounted an invasion of the Falkland Islands following an earlier civilian occupation of South Georgia in March. they outnumbered the nominal defence force of Royal Marines stationed there and soon the Governor had no choice but to surrender.

On April 4th, The British Nuclear submarine, Conquerer, was sent to enforce an exclusion zone, followed by a Naval task force led by Two Aircraft Carriers, Invincible and Hermes, a day later. By mid-April, the RAF had set up an Airbase on Ascension island which included a sizeable force of Avro Vulcan B Mk 2 bombers, Handley Page Victor K Mk 2 refuelling aircraft, and McDonnell Douglas Phantom FGR Mk 2 fighters to protect them. From there they were able to launch a series of bombing raids on Port Stanley Airfield, denying the Argentine Airforce the use of the facility, they were at the time the longest bombing raids ever completed at over 6800 nautical miles.

The two aircraft carriers were equipped with VTOL Sea Harriers and a wide range of support helicopters which could operate without a runway. British Navy and Airforce pilots Pilots at the time were both equipped with Seiko Gen1 quartz chronographs with a 7A28 movement, inexpensive but accurate, they had three buttons for split timing functions with a 10th-second accuracy, the are rare and very desirable with collectors

Unusual for an MWC the watch has an angled chapter ring with minutes numbered at 5-minute intervals

Polished Pencil type hour and minute hands with luminous green infill, and a slim polished centre seconds hand.
